Facing Change 3 (series of 4)
Monotype from my face, with ink made from earth / soil from the Shaxi area in China printed on Chinese rice paper.
I'm normally specialized in printing flora, fauna and food. But I decided to give it a try to print myself. These corona times make me face the temporariness of everything including myself. I love making monotypes because of the intense way I touch the object. So far I left my self out of my work and I'm happy I became part of it thanks to this call for self-portraits.
I mostly work with natural pigments or dyes I sometimes make myself.
For my own portrait I used Chinese soil for 2 reasons. First, the whole corona thing pointed to China and I have no idea if that is fair. Why do we always like to blame some one else. Besides that I have a minuscule part Chinese ancestors in the Asian part of my background.
Soil and earth refers for me to stories about the creation of humans. And the fact we return to the earth.
